We strive to nurture a generation of women who can recite and connect with Allah's Words themselves. We're doing this through low-commitment, high-impact tajweed learning and practise opportunities, one letter at a time. Support the mission.

We dream of a world where women confidently recite the Quran. We want to see homes everywhere filled with circles of sisterhood, surrounded by angels, where the sound of the Quran fills the air, like the sound of bees in a beehive. Fuel the vision.

Princess Zubaida, wife of Harun al Rashid, arranged for Quran to be recited in her home from dawn to dusk, by 100 women whose tajweed education she sponsored. Her home became a hive of remembrance, like bees in constant dhikr. Carry the inspiration.

Every session, we tackle the Arabic letters - and all of their characteristics, rules, exceptions, and forms - from one مخرج فرعي (articulation point). This means we focus on just one to three letters at a time.
As much as we would love to see you, no! Each session is designed to function as a stand-alone, which means you can just come when you can. No falling behind, no awkward glances. Come as you are, leave as you should be.
Absolutely. As long as you can read words (at whatever speed) from the Arabic alphabet, Qariaat is for you! If you're not quite there yet, we recommend finishing a course targeted towards reading first, before you join.
Of course it is. We offer three levels of instruction: beginner (can slowly thread words together), intermediate (reads with relative fluency, little or no familiarity with tajweed rules), and advanced (reads with fluency, relatively familiar with tajweed rules). You choose which halaqa to join every time. We take extra care to include highly advanced material for our advanced qariaat to engage with in their circles, alongside qualified facilitators and supervisors.
Our research team works under the guidance of Sh Hosam Helal (imam at ISNA, ijazaat in several recitation styles and related mutun, MA from al-Azhar in tafsir, PhD candidate at the University of Toronto in Quranic exegesis) and Ustatha Rasha Makhlouf (supervisor of Quran and tajweed halaqaat at Dar foundation, ijazaat in Hafs, graduate of al-Arqam Azhari Institute in Egypt in Islamic studies, and the great-granddaughter of sheikh Hassaneen Makhlouf - mufti of Egypt in the ‘50's) to produce the highest quality of learning material. Our primary written source is the classic غاية المريد في علم التجويد by Sheikh Atif Nasir. We also make use of cutting-edge resources to compile our pre-watch videos, such as Arabic101's YouTube channel. Every session's materials are reviewed by one of our senior scholars. See a sample pre-watch below.
Our vision is take Qariaat global. We are currently in Hamilton, with a chapter starting in Mississauga soon, in sha Allah. Get in touch with us if you'd like to help!
Our focus is getting girls through the door and into a halaqa, without barriers of any kind (not financial, not emotional, not social). For this reason, we don't want to charge our girls. We're growing, but we can't go further without your help!
